Learners should have:
Basic computer literacy (familiarity with using a mouse, keyboard, and navigating a web browser)
Access to a computer with internet access
A BBC micro:bit device (optional but recommended)
Interest in hands-on electronics, coding, or STEM
"MakeCode and the micro:bit" is a beginner-friendly course designed to introduce learners to physical computing through block-based programming. Using Microsoft MakeCode and the BBC micro:bit, students will explore how to write code that interacts with the physical world—lighting up LEDs, detecting motion, displaying messages, and more. The course blends creativity, logic, and engineering to teach real-world problem-solving in a fun and interactive way.
Students will gain hands-on experience building projects that integrate sensors, buttons, sound, and wireless communication. This course is ideal for young learners, educators, hobbyists, or anyone curious about coding and electronics.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Understand the basic components and features of the BBC micro:bit (LED matrix, buttons, sensors, etc.).
Navigate and use the Microsoft MakeCode editor to write and simulate block-based programs.
Create interactive projects using input (buttons, sensors) and output (LEDs, sound, display).
Use variables, loops, logic, and events in MakeCode to build functional and responsive programs.
Upload code to a physical micro:bit device and troubleshoot common issues.
Apply design thinking to build simple electronics projects (e.g., digital thermometer, step counter, reaction timer).
Collaborate and present their micro:bit projects in a class or showcase environment.
